Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled AWS OpenSearch Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing OpenSearch clusters on AWS. This role involves collaborating with developers, architects, and stakeholders to ensure optimal search performance, data indexing, and high availability. The AWS OpenSearch Engineer will also contribute to the optimization of search algorithms, scalability, and security across the platform.
Key Responsibilities
OpenSearch Deployment & Management:
- Architect, deploy, and maintain scalable OpenSearch clusters on AWS.
- Manage data pipelines for ingesting, processing, and indexing large volumes of data in real-time.
- Implement AWS services and integrations like S3, Lambda, EC2, IAM, and CloudFormation to support OpenSearch infrastructure.
Performance Optimization:
- Fine-tune OpenSearch for optimal query performance and efficient resource usage.
- Monitor and resolve performance issues with search queries, indexing, and cluster health.
Security & Compliance:
- Implement role-based access control (RBAC) and secure data management practices.
- Ensure the OpenSearch infrastructure meets security, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
Data Management:
- Optimize the ingestion, storage, and retrieval of structured and unstructured data.
- Develop backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies for OpenSearch clusters.
Monitoring & Troubleshooting:
- Use AWS CloudWatch and other monitoring tools to track OpenSearch health, usage, and alerts.
- Troubleshoot OpenSearch issues and conduct root cause analysis for system incidents.
Collaboration & Documentation:
- Work closely with software development teams to integrate OpenSearch into various applications and services.
- Provide technical guidance, training, and support for developers and team members on OpenSearch best practices.
- Document system architecture, configurations, and operational processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years Experience with AWS OpenSearch Service (or Elasticsearch).
- Proficiency with AWS services like EC2, S3, Lambda, IAM, VPC, CloudFormation, and CloudWatch.
- Strong understanding of indexing, querying, and search algorithms.
- Hands-on experience with configuring and managing OpenSearch clusters, indices, mappings, and pipelines.
- Experience with log aggregation and analysis tools such as Kibana or Grafana.
- Knowledge of RESTful APIs and JSON-based search queries.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools like CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform.
- Problem-solving skills in a fast-paced, distributed environment.
- Knowledge of networking and security protocols for cloud-based search engines.
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer.
- Experience with large-scale data pipelines and distributed systems.
- Knowledge of Java or Python for automation and integrations.
- Familiarity with analytics and machine learning applications in search.
The US average base salary range for this full-time contract position is $120,000 - $160,000. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations, but they are subject to change based on the following factors: role, experience level, education/certification, job-related skills, and working location. Please note that some states within the US have pay/hiring laws that may affect the salary range listed above.
